We met again with our students at New Palestine Junior High last week. As always, Mrs. Amone's class was a blast. We had some scheduling conflicts so we ended up coming in to help on Thursday, April 25. April 25 was "Bring your Kid to Work Day" at NPJH so we had some extra visitors in the classroom with us. When we arrived, our students were working on writing letters to the teachers of our elementary school guests. So Luke, Lydia and I assisted them in writing these letters and sending them using the inner office mail system. Following the letter writing, we each helped guide a group of students around the school on a scavenger hunt. Each place or item on the list had a number and critical thinking question associated with it. I was with Dewayne and Mrs. Yocum's son Rylon. We finished our hunt pretty quickly because of Dewayne's quick thinking and Rylen's enthusiasm. After the rest of the groups finished up their scavenger hunt, it was time for lunch. Because it was a special day, the students, parents and children were all allowed to eat in the classroom together and eat lunch. We concluded our day at NPJH by going outside and playing soccer on the black top after the rest of the students went inside after lunch. It was a fun and full day and we are so excited what's to come! Lydia helps Jill write her letter. Luke helping Dylan fold his letter to put in an envelope.

Coming out of spring break, Luke, Lydia and I were very excited to finally work with Mrs. Amones's special needs class at New Palestine junior high school. The three of us travel there every Wednesday and are involved with a variety of activities. We play different games with them that often work on critical thinking and life skills. We also will sit with the students at lunch and talk to them about anything that comes to mind. During our first visit we walked to nearby Sugar Creek Elementary and had recess with the students. Following a great first day with the class we were invited on a field trip to Bradford Woods with the class in May. During our second visit, a local farm came to visit with baby goats, sheep and chickens for the students to see, pet and play with. The students were elated to see the baby animals and were enamored by their cuteness. It has been a fun past two weeks and we could not be more excited to continue working with this incredible group of students.
